Note that all prices are in Canadian Dollars (CDN $). Once
you have filled out the immigration papers, at the Canadian custom
border, you are on your own. The best thing would be to have someone
waiting for you at the airport and offer you a place to stay for
a couple of days. Ask everyone you know if they can recommend a
good place to stay. Take things slow at first, with time everything
will become easier and more familiar to you.
If you don't know anyone, you can find a conveniently located motel/small
hotel/guest house with rooms priced around $21-$40-$60/night. This
could be a good place to stay for a couple of nights until you find
a better place.

This is Bryan Mallinson from the Canadiana Guest House
& Backpackers. We are a new hotel, having just opened
in July of 1999. Several of our guests have mentioned
your site and we feel it is a very good site for people
who are unfamiliar with the city and are coming here to
visit or stay. You have several lodging establishments
listed in your Accommodations page, and we were wondering
is we might be listed. We offer rooms (dorm style, single
rooms and double rooms) starting at $21, and often find
newcomers staying with us - sometimes tourists, and sometimes
people looking to stay for good!" |

There are many types of rental accommodation: apartments, rooms, houses
and townhouses. Most of the time the area dictates the price, followed
by the number of bedrooms, quality of building, etc. A place in
a highly desirable location is quite expensive, but most of the
time it is worth the money. This doesn't mean that for the first
months you have to spend everything on rent. You have to calculate
your budget and know exactly how much you can afford.
The price for a decent one bedroom apartment varies between $500
and $900/month. If you can not afford to rent an apartment, another
possibility is to rent a basement apartment or a bachelor ($300-$500/month).
You can share also the place with others. (It is better if you know
them or if they are recommended by someone you know.)
